Dark Nails I Want Now

I love how both shades feel polished without looking predictable. Burgundy brings drama and elegance, while brown gives me a softer, warmer alternative that still looks expensive and put together.
Both are especially relevant for 2026, when rich burgundy and cozy brown shades are among the standout nail-color trends.

Deep Red Is Back

If I had to choose one manicure that instantly makes everything look more sophisticated, it would be deep red. I am not talking about a bright classic scarlet, but darker red, burgundy, and almost-black cherry shades.
What I love about this trend is how versatile it is. On short square nails, burgundy looks clean and modern, while on almond-shaped nails it becomes much more dramatic and feminine. A glossy finish is my favorite because it makes the color look deeper and almost glass-like.
For this look, I would try OPI Malaga Burgundy, JinSoon Audacity, or Olive & June Obsessed. OPI Malaga Burgundy in particular fits perfectly into the current return of deep burgundy manicures.
I also like pairing a dark red manicure with simple jewelry and neutral clothes. The nails become a small statement without requiring nail art or extra details.

Warm Brown Feels Expensive

Brown nails are the trend I choose when I want something quieter. Instead of very dark espresso every time, I am especially drawn to warm chocolate, caramel, chestnut, and reddish-brown shades.
The glossy brown manicures in this trend remind me of coffee, chocolate, and polished leather, which is probably why they feel so perfect for colder months. Current fall trends are also moving toward softer suede-like browns and warm reddish browns rather than only classic mocha.
Some shades I would look for are OPI Espresso Your Style, OPI Chocolate Moose, Essie Expressie Never Skip a Beat, or Orly Canyon Clay. OPI also currently highlights rich espresso and chocolate tones among its seasonal brown options.

How I’d Wear Them

For a stronger, more evening-inspired manicure, I would choose deep burgundy on almond nails. For everyday wear, warm brown feels slightly softer and works beautifully with short oval or square shapes.
I would keep both trends very simple: two thin coats of color, a perfectly clean shape, and a high-shine top coat. That polished minimalism is exactly what makes these darker colors feel current rather than heavy.
If I had to pick only one, deep red would still win for me. But warm brown is the shade I would choose when I want something understated, cozy, and a little less expected.
